Laser hair removal remains to be one of the most popular hair removal methods for men and women.
When it comes to hair removal, there’s a range of methods available for both men and women.
- Waxing (hot wax on the skin and ripping it off sounds like fun…)
- Shaving (hello ingrown hairs)
- Plucking (too time-consuming)
- Laser (the holy grail of hair removal, read on.)
Laser for the ladies
Chickas, we’ve got you. If there’s a way that we can spend less time removing body hair and more time getting on with what really matters, then we’ll do whatever we can to find it. Enter …laser hair removal.
Here are a few of the most popular laser hair removal treatments and what you can expect for different parts of the body.
Face: It’s a fact. Some women have facial hair. Big deal. While we believe in making no apologies for our looks, if the fuzz is bothering you, you can do something about it.
Treatment time: Laser hair removal of the face is a quick and easy process. Treatments take about 15 minutes and you don’t have to grow your hair out in order to be treated, leaving you free to maintain the area between sessions by shaving.
Number of treatments: For optimum results, we recommend a series of 10 full face laser hair removal treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Following that, 1-2 maintenance treatments every year to keep the hair at bay. This is life changing and it’s a great way to boost your confidence.
Underarms: This area is often considered the starting point for laser. Full disclosure: I sent my younger sister in to try it and report back before I went myself. I’m not ashamed about admitting it, I’m only embarrassed about the fact that I didn’t start it sooner.
Treatment time: Underarms are perfect for laser. They respond quickly, and treatment takes about 5 minutes. Your underarms will be silky, soft and smooth in no time.
Number of treatments: Again, we recommend a series of 10 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart for optimum results. Following that, it’s simply 1-2 maintenance sessions a year.
Bikini Area: To bush or not to bush, that is the question. Girl, you just do you! For those who prefer maintaining the area, shaving or waxing in this region can be awkward and painful. Luckily, there’s laser.
Treatment time: Depends on whether you’re opting for a Bikini or Brazilian treatment, however, treatment time is anywhere between 5 - 15 minutes.
Number of treatments: We recommend 10 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart. Honestly, if you break it down, each Brazilian treatment is less than the cost of one wax or at least comparable. Unlike waxing, laser hair removal is permanent hair reduction and you don’t have to grow your hair out before your treatment. You’ll have less and less hair after each visit!
Legs: Shaving is so time-consuming! It doubles your time in the shower, it’s a mess when you accidentally nick yourself and if you like to remain silky smooth, then you’re doing the whole routine every couple of days. What. A. Drag.
Treatment time: Because your legs are a larger area, it requires a longer treatment time. Lower legs typically take 20 minutes and full legs take approx. 30-45 mins to complete (depending on the client). Regardless, it’s so worth it! You don’t have to worry about shaving or whether to wear a skirt or pants. You’ll be hair-free, care-free and you don’t have to suffer ingrown hairs!
Number of treatments: You guessed it. We recommend 10 treatments 4-6 weeks apart for the best results.
Saturdays are for the boys, and for laser.
Well, any day is great for laser, really. Dudes, lads, fellas, bros… your mate probably gets laser, you just don’t know about it …yet.
GUYS. There is a major misconception out there that it is our mission to spread the word! Laser hair removal can be both hair removal and permanent hair reduction. So if you'd like to remove the hair completely laser is for you. If you just want to reduce the thickness and darkness of your hair then this is also for you! With each session, you're hair grows back finer and lighter. The number of sessions you complete, determines the hair removal amount.
Here are the most popular spots the lads choose to get laser hair removal.
Face: Daily shaving can take its toll on men’s schedules, and cause skin problems such as ingrown hairs and inflammation. If you’re sure that you don’t want to grow a beard and you want some time back in your schedule, laser hair removal for the face is the way to go.
Treatment time: A quick and easy process, treatments takes about 15 minutes.
Number of treatments: Up to 10 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Followed by 1-2 maintenance treatments per year.
Neck: Laser hair removal for the neck can significantly help with men who experience razor burn and/or ingrown hair.
Treatment time: Approx. 10-15 minutes
Number of treatments: Up to 10 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Followed by 1-2 maintenance treatments per year.
Back & Shoulders: It’s a tricky part of the body for you to maintain yourself. Often the lads are a little self-conscious about excessive hair on the back and shoulders. Some guys shave, some wax and both methods will cause ingrown hairs due to high friction in the area. Why not give laser a go instead?
Treatment time: Approx. 20 minutes, depending on hair type.
Number of treatments: Up to 10 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Followed by 1-2 maintenance treatments per year.
Chest: Thick chest hair can be frustrating for some and it isn’t always practical to have your chest waxed or tweezed because of the large surface area, fast growth of hair, and resulting stubble. Laser hair removal treatment for chest hair is quick and easy solution.
Treatment time: Approx. 15 – 20 mins, depending on hair type.
Number of treatments: Up to 10 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Followed by 1-2 maintenance treatments per year.
Genital area: Some men prefer less hair down there. However, some methods of hair removal are awkward and painful. Not laser! A male Brazilian or Anus laser hair removal treatment gives you a smoother, cleaner look that offers permanent hair reduction.
Treatment time: Quick and easy, treatment time for the male Brazilian and/or anus is anywhere between 5 - 15 minutes.
Number of treatments: Up to 10, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Followed by 1-2 maintenance treatments per year.
Laser Hair Removal Tips from the experts:
- It is important that you do not wax or tweeze the hairs between treatments as this removes the hairs from the root. For laser hair removal treatment to be effective, the roots of the hairs need to be present. You can shave or use hair removal creams between treatments.
- We always advise that you use Skinstitut Laser Aid after your treatments to instantly cool the skin. It will also address redness and irritation post treatments. Apply liberally to the areas you’ve had treated up to four times a day until redness subsides. Make sure you do not rub excessively.
How to prep for your appointment:
- Shave the area between 12-24 hours before your treatment
- Avoid chemical peels or laser resurfacing prior to treatment
- Exfoliate to remove any dead skin build up
- Ensure that there is no residue fake tan present on the skin
- Avoid excessive sun exposure on the area being treated 2 weeks prior (including solariums or tanning drugs)
- Avoid using topical creams/moisturisers, perfumes to the area being treated before the appointment
